“His Heart’s Revenge” by Jenny Holiday

about

Twenty years ago, I was too smart and too poor to be cool. Now I’m laughing my way to the bank—the bank I’m CEO of. Nothing can touch me.

Except maybe him.

We met at summer camp. We made out under the stars. Then he stabbed me in the back.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold. But I’m gonna go with hot.

Alexander Evangelista is a millionaire with all the trappings: houses all over the world and hot guys lined up whenever he’s in need of some no-strings-attached company. He’s on his way to world domination.

A CEO in his own right, Cary Bell is competing for a major client with his boyhood crush. He’s never forgiven himself for betraying Alex. But with his professional reputation on the line, he’s going to have to find his inner cutthroat if he wants his new company to succeed.

Alex isn’t about to let his nemesis steal a client out from under him. It’s time to break Cary’s company—and his heart.

review

Second chances love stories are my FAVORITE…especially when it’s from angst-ridden youth to bitterness-laden adulthood! And that’s exactly what you get with His Heart’s Revenge by Jenny Holiday.

Ok, first…the characters in this story were SO GREAT. I mean, I loved them as kids. I loved them as adults. They were…unexpected…at times, and that element of being surprised by a character’s feelings and actions makes getting to know them so worth it!

Alex is a millionaire and CEO of a huge, successful company. He’s got the penthouse and the model boyfriend. But he worked hard to get there. He was from the ‘wrong side of the tracks’ growing up, having to work the kitchen at an all-boys summer camp in order to attend. But he was determined to make a success of himself.

Cary comes from money, but does not want to be under his family’s thumb. So he starts his own company and finds some success of his own. He was the popular kid, the jock, the one with a rich family.

This story takes us back to Alex and Cary’s sweet friendship and hidden attraction as kids. And what ultimately ends up in some painful betrayal. It then takes us to modern day, two titans fighting over a coveted piece of business.

The author does a great job of managing both the childhood chapters and the adult ones. I loved the road to discovery for the two teens, and the road to forgiveness and acceptance for the two adults. The physical attraction was HOT, but the emotional longing was…unf…it had my heart pounding. By the end, I didn’t care WHO “won” in the end, I just was so excited to see them figure it out TOGETHER!

The writing is great, the characters so fun, and the road to the payoff so satisfying!

Ooooohhhwheeee…the betrayal scene. IT HURT. I was SO SAD I had to take a moment and walk away. I needed there to be some groveling…and there was some groveling…just enough to make me feel like yes, this is gonna be ok. Ha!

beware

You may think “I’ve read this book before”…because yeah, the story isn’t a new one. But, honestly, it’s done really well here!
