“The Goal” by Elle Kennedy

She’s good at achieving her goals…

College senior Sabrina James has her whole future planned out: graduate from college, kick butt in law school, and land a high-paying job at a cutthroat firm. Her path to escaping her shameful past certainly doesn’t include a gorgeous hockey player who believes in love at first sight. One night of sizzling heat and surprising tenderness is all she’s willing to give John Tucker, but sometimes, one night is all it takes for your entire life to change.

But the game just got a whole lot more complicated

Tucker believes being a team player is as important as being the star. On the ice, he’s fine staying out of the spotlight, but when it comes to becoming a daddy at the age of twenty-two, he refuses to be a bench warmer. It doesn’t hurt that the soon-to-be mother of his child is beautiful, whip-smart, and keeps him on his toes. The problem is, Sabrina’s heart is locked up tight, and the fiery brunette is too stubborn to accept his help. If he wants a life with the woman of his dreams, he’ll have to convince her that some goals can only be made with an assist.

If you aren’t reading Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series, you’re really missing out on some quality new adult romance. The author manages to toe the fine line of having characters that are real and feel authentic, people you could know in real life, people you knew in college…BUT puts them in circumstances that are just a tiny bit over the top which is what makes for super compelling reading!

The Goal is book 4 in the series, though in my opinion, all of them can be read as stand alones. The male lead characters throughout the series are on the college hockey team and the female leads are a mixed bag. In The Goal, Tucker is salt-of-the-earth, make your heart swoon, caretaker of his teammates and those around him. Tucker is…gah…he’s EVERYTHING! ha! I have the biggest crush on him.

He meets Sarina at a bar. Sarina is tough, and focused, and has no time for anything other than reaching her goals: getting out of her broken and frankly f*cked up home and get into law school. Sarina is sexually active, and she is not your typical snow white fairy tale princess. It’s exactly what I like about her. She’s a young woman trying to figure out how to have it all. And it’s really really hard for her. That is as real life as it get!

Tucker and Sarina’s chemistry is through the roof and I found their friends to lovers interaction to be SSSSEEEEXXXYYYY! Sarina does NOT make it easy on Tucker and truth be told, as we were nearing the end of the book, I was starting to get frustrated and almost gave up.

But the author ultimately brings us back to our satisfying HEA. One that was hard fought, hard won, and left me with a huge smile on my face!

I really liked Sarina as a lead character. She’s imperfect and we so rarely read the female that’s this hard on the outside. She is no bullshit and I respected that.

Tucker. Man…why to make a guy who’s just SO SOLID. I don’t know that I would’ve appreciated Tucker when I was in college. But as an adult, who that man will grow up to be is exactly the man of my dreams! 😀 😀 😀

There is a good chunk of the book where we’re following Sarina’s struggle to survive her ever-demanding life. During this time, Tucker isn’t really in the picture and I found myself skimming a bit. I was missing him!
