“Shattered Glass” by Dani Alexander

A male prostitute, a mangy cat, a murder and a maniacal mix-up that threatens his career, his impending marriage and his life. Nothing is going as planned for Austin Glass.

Austin—seems to have it all. At least on the surface. A loving fiancee. A future with the FBI and a healthy sized trust fund. He also has a grin and a wisecrack for every situation. But the smile he presents to everyone hides a painful past he’s buried too deeply to remember. And his quips mask bitterness and insecurity. Austin has himself and most of the whole world fooled. Until he meets someone who immediately sees him better than he sees himself.

As events unfold and Austin’s world unravels, he finds himself pushed into making quick life-changing decisions. But can he trust Peter or what’s happening between them when each meeting seems to be just a series of volatile reactions?

I’m exhausted. I’m exhilarated. I need a nap. I need an espresso. I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS BOOK! Ha. Sorry for yelling….but if I got your attention in the back, well…. #notsorry. I’m still trying to solve the, how did I miss this book? puzzle. I honestly have no clue. If you were under the same rock as I was, *tugs hand* come on out and allow me to introduce you to some special people.
First we have, Austin Glass. Detective Austin Glass. Also known as Oz, asshole and dickwad. Austin is a hot mess. But he’s a lovable hot mess. I’m not going to say you’ll love him all the time. Nope. You will probably find yourself not liking him a time or twenty but you will definitely find yourself loving him even more. Austin was born without a filter. He has zero tact. And he’s brass (or more precisely an ass). He’s honest to a fault…except when it comes to himself. He’s exceptional at his job. He’s hilarious and quick-witted. And when we peel back all of his endless layers, we discover he’s never been loved…until now. His mother abandoned him, his father failed him and his multiple fiancées never knew him. The result is a sassy but perfectly coiffed exterior with the most imperfect frazzled interior.
Not to be outdone we have…Peter. Diner owner, bunny slipper wearer, sexy ginger adorned with freckles, Peter. Also known as Petya, Rabbit and boyfriend. Peter’s life is a hot mess. Fate has dragged him through the mud, spit in his face, and kicked him in the balls. He holds everyone at arm’s length except for his brothers. His story is…complicated and heartbreaking. I want to make him a hot cup of tea, pull him into a hug, and throat-punch anyone that tries to hurt him. And that includes you Austin Glass!
As you can see, I’m slightly smitten with these two. But my infatuation doesn’t end here. The supporting cast deserves their own high praise and the intricate story line is guaranteed to keep you on your book toes. AND the writing? Extraordinary.

Let’s just skip right ahead….

*wiggles toes in slippers* Okay, I might have (totally) purchased some snugly bunnies for my tootsies. I didn’t understand the countless references to bunny feet before. But after I finished my back-to-back reread, I needed some. Why did I get them? Is it because I don’t want to forget them? Nahh….that’s not going to happen. I can’t see myself ever forgetting this book or the amazing souls in it. But I wanted to bring a piece of their story into my life. A visual and an instant smile. They nestled into my heart and I thank Dani for sharing them with us. Speaking of Dani *ohmyshitohmyshitohmyshit*…he not only delivers but he delivers the whole kit ‘n kaboddle. Bellyaching laughs, eye leaking sniffles, foot stomping tantrums, and spontaneously combusting passion. I loved both MC’s, I loved the rest of the crew (yep, I’ve joined the Cai Cult), I loved their crazytrain story, and I loved the stellar writing. *sigh* Lots to love here my friends.

Austin is engaged when we first met him. However, Angelica totally rocks and understands Austin better than he does himself most days. He has also firmly locked himself in the closet…until now. His mouth is both his best and worst asset. Peter was born into a dangerous lifestyle. He’s survived but not without scars. And more than one person has blood on their hands. You must also pay attention, it’s an elaborate journey of twists and turns. Don’t think you can multi-task this baby, one hundred percent focus is required. And prepare for a desperate desire for more!

bookisforYou. And you. And you. Seriously, what are you waiting for? You need this book.

*thrums fingers*
*bounces in seat*
*blinks puppy eyes*
Book two is coming soon…right?

  1. I knew it! I was sure you were going to love this book when I saw in GR that you were reading it. Welcome to our cult, all of us periodically rereading SG (wearing our bunny slippers, obviously) while we wait for Dani to finish writing Not So Innocent,
