“Kiss Me Again” by Garrett Leigh

about

Tree surgeon Aidan Drummond is content with his own company. He works alone, and lives alone, and it doesn’t occur to him to want anything else until a life-changing accident lands him in hospital. Then a glimpse of the beautiful boy in the opposite bed changes everything.

Ludo Giordano is trapped on the ward with a bunch of old men. His mind plays tricks on him, keeping him awake. Then late one night, a new face brings a welcome distraction. Their unlikely friendship is addictive. And, like most things in Ludo’s life, temporary.

Back in the real world, Aidan’s monochrome existence is no longer enough. He craves the colour Ludo brought him, and when a chance meeting brings them back together, before long, they’re inseparable again.

But bliss comes with complications. Aidan is on the road to recovery, but Ludo has been unwell his entire life, and that’s not going to change. Aidan can kiss him as much as he likes, but if he can’t help Ludo when he needs him most, they don’t stand a chance.

review

Whew, Garrett is not messing around here folks. Nope. This one is…..INTENSE. Prepare to be swept away, caught in a torrential storm of emotions. I’m battered, bruised, and smiling so big it hurts. That’s kinda how things work when I open a GL Special. Without question, I hand over my heart and know she will return it with a new scar. I’m beyond thrilled to add Aidan and Ludo’s mark to her map of memories. We meet Aidan and instantly the first pivotal scene takes place before we really know what’s going on. You see, Aidan is a victim of a devastating accident. But he can’t regret the new path this near-fatal day led him to. Falling from the one and only place that ever gave him comfort capsized his life. Shattered and broken, Aidan is lost in disarray. And then, he comes along and his life is forever changed. It’s like he waited his whole life for this one man and he appeared exactly when he needed him. Perfect timing for imperfect men who love each other not in spite of, but for their imperfections.

Did you notice the cover? Wow…you should feast your eye’s on it. The significance makes me shiver. Stunning! Another powerful feature is the title. I had goosebumps when I came across the moment of its importance. Well, to be honest at that point my body was alight, nerves buzzing and I prayed my eyes wouldn’t let me down as I read in the wee hours to finish. I bank on reading straight through when my emotions become entangled with a story and I knew this was a one-shot read by the first few chapters. I also knew I had to be in the right frame of mind for this one. The first time I opened it, I wasn’t ready. And I refuse to allow myself to sabotage an amazing book because I wasn’t prepared. Take my advice, steel yourself before you begin. You’re gonna need it.

As always, Leigh presents two souls meant for one another. She brings them together and missing pieces link, lock, and hold fast. Aidan is miserable and cares about almost nothing. He doesn’t do humans very well. However, he does have a soft spot for trees. That would probably have to do with the fact that humans always failed him but his majestic friends never did. They were a constant in his life when nothing else was. They provided an escape and bit of joy during his bleak childhood. As soon as he was able, he began to protect them. He longs to save as many as he can. Sadly, it doesn’t seem to matter how many he rescues, the holes in his heart never fill. That is until…until Ludo. Ludo has fought many battles in his days and not many would understand what it takes for him to survive them. He doesn’t always understand himself. Oddly enough, the stranger in the hospital who captivates him beyond measure does. Aidan holds the key to the secret code of Ludo. His solid presence soothes Ludo’s soul like nothing ever has. Proving their connection can weather the obstacles sure to come may be more difficult than either anticipated. Luckily for us, Leigh demonstrates the unlimited strength true love holds. We also have the pleasure of witnessing how beautiful the unconditional love of a dog can be. Bella steals the show more than once and I clung to her unbridled happiness. If you’re familiar with Leigh’s work, you know she weaves her stories together, connecting them with glistening, never-ending threads. And you’re gonna flip your lid with this one!

Mental health bared in its true colors. A slight but necessary separation. And the epitome of soul mates.
