“The Redemption of River” by Eli Easton

River Larsen is a world traveler, truth-seeker, and tantric healer. He’s a master of loving all—and no one. Both his past and his spiritual path warn him against attachment. When he falls for his surrogacy client and coffee magnate, Brent McKay, River tells himself it’s a temporary idyll, a beautiful encounter they’ll both enjoy and move on from like two ships passing in the stream of life. Except his heart misses that memo.

Brent McKay hasn’t been interested in sex since his wife died two years ago. When he goes to Expanded Horizons sex clinic in Seattle for help, he meets River Larsen, a sex surrogate specializing in reiki massage and tantric sex therapy. Brent never expected to be interested in a man, but River’s light-filled spirit, inner peace, and electric touch bring him back to life. Brent’s loyal heart is ready to commit again. But how can he convince River that love can last forever—if you just have faith?

The Redemption of River features a widower who surprises the hell out of himself, a gorgeous hippy who thinks he’s a dandelion puff, an age gap, midlife discovery of bisexuality, foodie Seattle, a houseboat, dogs, a trip to Mumbai, and tantric secrets. (You know, the ones that let you have sex for hours. Those secrets.)

Redemption and revelation. The more I learn about sex therapy the more impressed I am. Speaking of impressive, I was overwhelmed with River. I had never heard of a tantric healer or even lingam massage. If you’re in the same boat, follow Brent’s advice and Google it. Ehhh, just beware of where and when. You’ll see what I mean! Brent lost his wife a few years back and has been struggling to tap back into his sexual drive since her death. His libido came to a screeching halt during her painful fight with cancer and never returned. Reaching out to Expanded Horizons was a desperate move but proved to be one of his best decisions. Turns out he was suffering from not only emotional and mental sexual blockages but physical as well. River set Brent free but was unexpectedly bound himself. And this is where the beauty of this story blinded me. The deep well of emotions mixed together with freedom of tying your heart to another left me in awe.

I’ve enjoyed my time with this fabulous ‘Sex in Seattle’ crew and was happy to check in and see how everyone was doing. All of the guys are great and River and Brent make a wonderful addition. Easton delivers a tender self-discovery and second chance at life and love story. Brent never examined his sexual identity to closely because he fell in love early and completely. Tragically, he lost her to cancer and simultaneously lost a piece of himself. He was sleepwalking through his grief and River woke him up with his vibrating spirit. But…Brent isn’t supposed to fall for his sex surrogate. He chalks it up to missed opportunities and moves forward with a bit more pep in his step. However, fate isn’t done with them yet and she twists their paths together once again. Neither has the strength to walk away a second time…until River feels he has no choice. He’s his mother’s son and doesn’t restrict himself or settle. Or maybe, he had things wrong all along?

I adored both River and Brent and especially loved them together. They simply…fit. Despite the discrepancies in their bank accounts and birthdays, they are good together. They make each other happy, intensely happy, so why should anything else matter? That is the ultimate question. They take it slow and enjoy their time shared knowing it has an expiration date. As their relationship grows they realize they truly can do anything together. Brent relishes in this fact, awestruck that he would be blessed with a second soul mate. River doesn’t believe in planting roots, his past has given him ample reason to doubt it’s stability. But flying free doesn’t have the same liberation when you’re no longer whole. Brent stole a piece of his heart and he thought he’d manage without it. From the perfect brew to adorable pups to the wide world of kombucha, I was entranced from start to finish. *sigh* So much good stuff. I was smitten with the ending and would venture to say I’m certain you’ll feel the same.

bewareGrief, it doesn’t have a timeline and never truly disappears but learning to live and love again is a priceless gift. Reiki, tantric, and lingam are integral but never oppressive. And prepare for some out of this world sex brimming with passion you won’t soon forget!

If you’re in the mood for a remarkable tale with two souls destined to fuse together, this breathtaking breakthrough is exactly what you need!
