He’s Mr. Right Now, but for how long?
When Russ suffers a Thanksgiving disaster, his gorgeous neighbor Esteban is there to save the day. And after an innocent mix-up leads to the former Hollywood hottie playing the role of Russ’s date, Russ thinks scoring Esteban as his fake boyfriend is a huge win. The newly discharged marine is healing inside and out and could use some holiday cheer.
For his part, Esteban is intrigued by his big, bad neighbor. He likes how his matchmaking cat brings out an unexpected caring side of Russ. Desire flares as the reasons to continue their ruse pile up for both men.
And pretending feels so good. From chocolaty kisses to late night cuddles, their burgeoning friendship is getting cozier and cozier. But as the end date for their little deception looms, all the real feelings they’ve tried to ignore come tumbling in. Each must decide whether they have what it takes to ring in the New Year as a couple.
The fake boyfriend trope is tried and true and this was another winner in my book. I haven’t quite figured out what exactly pulls me into this faux world but I can’t deny the rush I get every time it suddenly, isn’t pretending anymore. Russ and Esteban are neighbors that haven’t gotten friendly…quite yet. When Russ is abandoned for his first time hosting Thanksgiving and hasn’t a clue what to do, the hottie next door rushes to his rescue. Russ isn’t about to turn him away because quite frankly, he wants to impress his family. When the evening is a smashing success his biggest surprise is how much fun he had and how easy it was. Esteban brings fresh energy to his home that he’s never felt before. Or is the energy connected to Esteban and follows him wherever he goes? Russ would like to find out. And I can’t say I blame him. Me too!
For as lighthearted as this was, there was a deeper layer that pulled on my heartstrings. Apparently, this was my first dabble in Albert’s words but it certainly won’t be the last. I enjoyed her humor, pace, and smooth voice. I found myself cheering for both of the guys and their progress together. I loved the family ties even when they were annoying and demanding. I loved the lessons in the kitchen and out of it. I loved how food became comfort and joy. It’s easy to love Esteban with his bubbling bright personality but I was equally drawn to our reserved soldier. But most of all, I loved how Right now became just…Right. *sigh* That’s the good stuff right there!
The pages are short and sweet…and so are they. But when it’s right, it’s right. And sometimes your dream is waiting for you just around the corner, better grab it while you can!
Anyone hungry for a spontaneous hoax turned honest, this delightful pair delivers a feast worth devouring!
